We embrace & celebrate diversity
What is Neurodiversity Affirming?
Neurodiversity, a movement championed by the autistic community, views neurological differences like autism not as disorders but as natural variations in human cognition. This perspective shifts focus away from deficit-based labels like “Autism Spectrum Disorder” and advocates for the use of “autism” to emphasise acceptance and celebrate neurodiversity.
Neurodiversity-affirming practices embrace neurological differences as natural variations in human experience, recognising that “disability” often arises from the interaction between a person’s unique neurology and their environment. Instead of seeking to “fix” or “cure” individuals with conditions like ADHD and autism, we focus on understanding and appreciating their unique strengths, challenges, and ways of perceiving the world.
